Two of these deputies also function as Field Training Officers. The primary function of the patrol division is the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws, as well as the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes in unincorporated Moffat County. Members of the Patrol Section are also active in community relations. This is accomplished through various means such as the Ranch Watch program, talking with at risk children, and attempting to mediate neighborhood disputes before they escalate to a criminal level. Patrol deputies also conduct many of their own investigations. They receive training in investigations through temporary assignment to the Investigations Section and various schools. Many of the patrol deputies have specialized training. Some of the special training includes DEA Clandestine (Meth, LSD, GHB, etc.) Laboratory training, DUI enforcement, livestock enforcement, and arson investigation. Other duties of the Patrol Section include wild land fire suppression, search and rescue in conjunction with the sheriff's posse, and extradition of prisoners. The deputies of the Patrol Section are a very well trained, experienced, and cohesive group dedicated to the well being of Moffat County.
